#AwesomeBios – How Your Bio Helps People Find You

Most people miss this important section in their Social Media Accounts! Do you know what it is? Bios. A bio is the first impression for anyone who doesn’t know or understand what you do. Not only is it one of the first things people see, it’s also the heart of the social media platform’s internal search engine.

The bio can be a section that says bio or it can be part of the “About Us” area. Either way, it’s a key part of your profile, and is usually set up at the beginning of your account. If you haven’t looked at it in a while, you’re not alone.

A fully fleshed bio loaded with the right keywords are how people will find you. The way you write them will vary depending on the platform. For twitter, you have 160 characters. In Instagram, using emojis can save space and connect with the right crowd. It’s also encouraged to use one or two common hashtags that represents a brand campaign or two. Your website is also necessary. A Facebook bio has a short bio and a long one.

Here are some top tips for developing an #AwesomeBio that you and your audience will love.

Be accurate. People are more willing to follow you based on what you over your attempts to be clever.

Write your bio according to your purpose. Your mission statement should dictate that.

Keep it exciting. Who you are is exciting to you, isn’t it? Make sure you use a little enthusiasm. Show a little upbeat tone and optimistic verbiage. Use active voice to show maximum impact. Which one is more appealing?

We help you get the clients you deserve.

If you need a helping verb in the sentence, you’re probably deep in passive voice-land. Passive voice has its place in the world, but your bio should be full of powerful verbs that appeal to your potential customers and clients.

Include a call to action (if possible). How are you going to convert social media followers into leads? You put in a call to action that appeals to them. Here are some examples:

  • Shop everything
  • Download the free guide now
  • Latest blog post
  • Join the Adventure

A key note here: If you have a brick and mortar location, you should ALWAYS include your address and opening hours, when possible.

Develop multiple sizes for your bio. If you’d like to make things easier for yourself, develop a micro bio, a short bio, and a long bio before you make any changes. A micro bio should be one or two lines about yourself. You can use it on Twitter and the short bio section on Facebook. It also comes in handy as a quick logline when people ask what you do. A short bio is a paragraph (or two very short paragraphs) that include important aspects of your business and who you are. A long bio is two paragraphs long and covers the information included in both previous bios. It also has a few “nice to know” facts about you. Remember to include your opening hours if you’re a brick and mortar store!

Include contact details. This is so very important. If you don’t provide a website, email address, or any other way for people to contact you outside of social media, they will feel as though you’re not interested in their business. At a minimum, a bio should provide them with a connection between your social media account and your website.

Keywords are a must! You must use searchable keywords in your bio. While a Star Wars fan may love the “Jedi Knight” reference, it does nothing for your search results within your social media platform. Your bio doesn’t have to be clinical and boring by any means, but make sure you hit your key words first.

Keep it consistent. Your social media platforms should give the same impression of your business. It’s not unusual for a potential client to click all the social media links you provide in order to engage on their preferred platform. Brand consistency is imperative to your success.

Keep it updated. This is especially important. If your store hours don’t match across platforms, that’s a problem. If your website links aren’t updated, you can miss out on important leads. Sometimes your business may shift its priorities. If it does, changing your bios are important.

An #AwesomeBio is an important part of helping potential clients and customers find you.

The Power of StoryTelling In Your Brand

“Walking the Talk” means we play in the social spaces we have developed and engage every opportunity possible. In connecting with clients, partners, vendors and prospective clients, we have found many inconsistencies in brands from cover images, to profile images to a branded message that tells a story.

Storytelling in social media is the art of sharing your brand message along with rich keywords, focused demographics, product/services detail and solving pains … without being overly bland.  Most organizations who create a profile in a social platform haven’t mastered this technique as the platforms don’t really talk about their search functions in that way.

Did you know that EVERY single social media platform is essentially its own search engine? By developing the right type of bio fit for the platform, you are optimizing the space it provides with searchable content that is beneficial to your brand.

It is nearly impossible to copy an About section of your website into your social brand and make it search worthy in a platform without knowing what words you can share to make your profile searchable to your ideal target market, but also stand out with clear call to action; unless you have been properly trained on the art of Bio writing in social media.

Consider LinkedIn for example … the platform doesn’t provide the space that they do in each section without wanting each word getting utilized to its optimal performance … ie, a resume written bio won’t show case the same options as a richly worded strategic bio that tells a story.  Whether an individual or business, every section has a purpose, is designed to serve you and speak a message that isn’t tailored to your ordinary resume.

To relate, I tell a story often about an outreach project, where I was looking for Face Painters in a specific area of town.  I searched Google and found limited results, but when I searched LinkedIn, I found more … because the right words were in their profile. I was able to reach out to and select from a small group of Face Painters for my project through this tool.  The results were higher because of what they shared and the outcome resulted in 3 local service providers who wanted to participate in our event.  Yes, three – high grade professional in their craft who were bidding for our project in LinkedIn.

You CAN have a robust following and message with the right Social Media Bio developed for you and your brand.

Let us know if your business could use a little more inbound marketing with less cost of Google Ads and less LinkedIn “resume-like” appearances.

3 Steps to Spring Clean Your Social Media

https://thesocialmediaadvisor.com/Services.html

It’s that time of year where the freshness of Spring brings new beginnings, sprinkled with renewal, covered in a flowery aroma of goal setting, process planning, shinning bright with a ray of business building.
Enjoying a change of temperature in weather, it is time to change the temperature of your social media.
Visit each of your Social Media Profile  and verify that your Profile Pictures,  Cover Photos and Videos are current, fit the space requirements within the platform, are crisp and clean.  As you may noticed if you haven’t visited the pages for a while, the platforms have all changed their layout requirements multiple times  in the last year.  This is also a great opportunity to invest innew images if your pictures are out of date, do not fit the space properly or aren’t high resolution.
I am constantly challenged by visiting social profiles and seeing they don’t have cover photos.  This means the page managers haven’t taken the time to keep current, which probably also means they aren’t posting consistent updates.  It hurts your brand when you aren’t sharing in your social spaces.
Remember – social media is a marketing tool encouraging social interactions. It is difficult to be social if you aren’t posting content for your users to interact with.
Your bio is the one area in your social profile that tells people the story of your business, your niche, your target market and your products and services.  Each social platform has some sort of “about me” action that you have probably put information in at some point.  Refresh this section with your refined vision for your current goals, your current target market and your current niche.  Your message will be clear, tell a story and should include strategically placed keywords as your profile is searchable.
Develop a 3, 6, 9 and 12 month marketing plan by focusing on your 5 key services /products /selling points, compile a list of questions and objections you have encountered over the last year where you could provide answers as part of your social media strategy.
You can also document influential bloggers, information resources and share their blogs / articles / posts in your social media feeds (be sure to reference them with links to their sites/blogs).
Document a social media post schedule, response process and outline your internal marketing plans for your sales and support teams.
Keeping your brand up to date will benefit your company, your goal setting and bring potential for new business, visibility and credibility with your audience by maintaining a clean, crisp, fresh, current message.
Remember, if you aren’t having fun, you’re doing it wrong.
