Forget Me Not – Reconnecting with People Online

The next chapter of our #KeystoKindness series this month covers reconnecting with people online. This is especially true for past clients, colleagues, co-workers, and networks that you might not have thought of in awhile. While social media is all about connecting, having conversations and engagement online, the focus tends to be on making new relationships instead of strengthening those you already have.
The main benefit of reconnection is building on a foundationthat is already established. They already know, and most likely trust, you and what you do. We all get busy and get lost in our own tunnel vision. Taking a moment to remind them that you are around and are thinking of them is a great way to reopen communication channels. From there, both parties are welcome to collaborate, brainstorm or share information.
How to Approach Reconnecting
It may feel awkward to say hello to someone you haven’t thought of in awhile. It doesn’t have to elaborate, opening with something simple works just fine. Try one of these:
“Hey there! I was just thinking of you and wondering how your business was doing?”
“Hello! I’m working on this new project and thought it would be great to get your input on it. I’ve always valued your opinion.”
“I saw this article online and it looked right up your alley. Figured I would share and see how you are doing?”
Where to Reconnect
Sure, you can just shoot people an email or a text to reconnect. There’s nothing wrong with that approach at all. However, consider using your social media platforms instead. For one, everyone is looking for more authentic engagement on his or her online platforms. Besides, a side benefit could be that other people view or even participate in the conversation.
Facebook
Share a link to a website, blog, or article that might be interesting to the person. Like some of their posts. Comment on their shares. Make sure to leave a personal note. Ask them a question to encourage them to respond.
LinkedIn
The good thing is this site is built for connecting. Go through your connections and send people a message. Leave a recommendation or endorsements. Often they will be grateful for the time you spent and message you expressing gratitude. Perhaps they will even reciprocate on your profile. Spend some time looking at the prompts the website offers for reconnecting – congratulation people on their new jobs, promotions or work anniversaries.
Twitter
Twitter has perfected the art of the short conversation. If you use Twitter, get on there and start retweeting, favoriting, and mentioning people you haven’t spoken to in a while. Find creative ways to spark their interest and build your own engaging conversations.
There are other ways to reconnect as well. Know any bloggers? Go read their latest blog post and post a comment. Engage and interact with people you know on forums, community groups, and websites. Pull up a list of people you network with and send them something valuable or interesting.
Challenge yourself to take some time this week to drop a line with some people you haven’t talked to for a bit. It establishes more presence for you online and you never know what kind of benefits might come from engaging others. Keep expressing gratitude, counting your blessings, and sharing kindness.

This is just one of the ways to #BeAwesome this November. Keep an eye out for more of our #KeystoKindness later this month.

The Scoop on Periscope!

Social Seven – Social Media Podcast
With Erin Cell of Socially Powered and Hollie Clere of The Social Media Advisor

The Scoop on Periscope!

Incorporating images and video into your online marketing is essential! But, have you thought about building relationships using stream? Periscope is a fun tool to do so! Periscope is a live streaming tool that can be used for online marketing and relationship building.

Periscope was announced at Social Media Marketing World 2015 and is a hot new tool. Everybody at the Friday sessions were #scoping. All the morning sessions were scoped as well. People were stopping and scoping others in the hallways. There were lots of conversations on Periscope versus Meerkat. Periscope is Twitter’s version of this type of tool. It is a live-streaming video app. It can be accessed through an app on your phone or through an Internet browser.

Periscope has great interaction. People can ask you questions during the scope and anyone can join without needing a specific link.  They can send comment instantly. Also, viewers can tap the screen to send hearts to the people on the video as a way to approve or appreciation what is being filmed.

The most important thing about video is being able to meet people. You get to interact with someone, hear how they speak, see how they talk with their hands. It’s all that relatable Like, Know, Trust stuff. That is the way of marketing right now with the images and video components that people are using. If you aren’t incorporating these into your marketing, you have a flat brand. Video is one of the absolute most important tasks you should be doing.

Periscope is not only a flat video that you are watching. You can also interact with it. You get to have an engaging experience with a brand or an individual.

How are you using Periscope to build your brand and spread your message? Follow us on social media to find out when our Social Seven podcast is streaming live!

Denver Startup Week Recap – Thank You for Attending and Supporting Us!

I am truly humbled by the experience that I had at Denver Startup Week 9/30/2015.  With the final number of registrations for our Panel was 963.  The room was full to the brim in attendance on top of a few hundred people that were turned away due to maximum capacity in the space.  WOWZA!
Here was the link for the event:
 Description:
“This panel will delve into the intricacies of utilizing social media to become a thought leader and influencer in your field and industry. This panel will highlight the expertise from a variety of social media experts and influencers who have used digital tools to position themselves as a thought leader. This session is applicable for anyone wanting to grow their personal digital persona, whether they are an employee, rainmaker, CEO, or intern in their current role.”
First and foremost, I need to thank Colorado Women In Social Media for submitting the event and for all of the time we spent on this little idea that turned out to be a great one!  In preparing for this event, we spent the last few months in dialogue, documenting and compiling ideas.  We sought out influencers that we follow online, received some fabulous feedback and quotes on their experience as an influencer and being approachable.  I will note here – if you admire the work that someone else has done, you follow them and try to engage; it is worth the time to invest in relationships of those you admire.  My biggest take away from this entire experience was the fact that we are all people doing what we love and so if you find us influential, we thank you.
The location was top notch, tech savvy and the attendees were deeply engaged.  I’m not going to lie here, I has heartbroken about parking problems and having to turn folks away, but as the location stated, “Your topic must be that good!”  Which we all deeply appreciated.
There was very little stress mostly because of the quality of professionals that are in our group.  Each of us contributed so many of our specializes from tech to sound, to video topics that we are passionate about.  From the responses on social media, in person and later via email, it seems as though all attendees walked away with value; which was the ultimate goal!
Here were a few tweets and responses about the event:
